Ca’ Foscari doubled the funds for research projects financed in competitive international calls. In 2017 there were 11.3 million euros in funding - compared with 4.8 millions the previous year.

The goal set in the Strategic Plan of 7 million euros per year was far exceeded. The university has not only welcomed new projects, but also the researchers who conceived them and their research team, attracting an international and diverse community of professors, researchers and students in a unique city.

Michele Bugliesi, Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, declared that: “This outcome was reached thanks to our professors and researchers and to the impact of their research. Scientific innovation is the heart of our mission and that is why we are investing to support our researchers participating to calls for funding and to attract new talents. Developing research is the best investment for our future and for the quality of our education offer”.

In 2017 30 research projects were financed. 13 Horizon 2020 projects were obtained for more than 7.7 million euros, including 5 projects as project partner and 8 as individual funding (for more than 6.7 million euros), which are composed of 4 Marie-Skłodowska Curie fellowships and 4 ERC Grants. Two of the latter chose Ca’ Foscari as their host institution from the presentation of the proposal, whereas the two other came from international universities through the brain gain policy.

Other successful programs involving Ca’ Foscari were the LIFE programme (3 projects won for almost 880 thousand euros) and the European Territorial Cooperation (ETC) (9 projects for more than 1.8 million euros), but also three projects with the new Italy-Croatia INTERREG programme and an Italy-Slovenia project as the only institution from Veneto region. Finally Ca’ Foscari participated to three projects originating from public and private foundations for a total of 880 thousand euros.
