Ca’ Foscari Tour is turning 10 in 2019! To celebrate, they will offer their beloved tours for free to both citizens and tourists. The visits will be led by competent Ca’ Foscari students and they will be carried out each Saturday, starting from February 16th .

From 9:30 to 12:30, you can choose one of the six available time slots, 3 in English and 3 in Italian, which will take about 40 minutes each. Visitors (depending on availability of the spaces) will get a chance to see Ca’ Foscari’s headquarters, the majestic gothic palace with its picturesque courtyards and the Mario Baratto Hall, with a breathtaking view on the largest bend of the Grand Canal, or the Ca’ Dolfin Palace and its Main Hall, a lavishly decorated room dating back to the 17th century, where it will also be possible to experience the Tiepolo Virtual Tour, an innovative and interactive visit through special HoloLens visors, to rediscover the beautiful paintings by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and the original frescos.

From this year, visitors will also be allowed in the recently restored Niobe’s Courtyard, the memorial monument to the fallen Ca’ Foscari professors and students and one of the most poignant locations of the whole University. Reopened in July 2018 in occasion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Ca’ Foscari, this courtyard hosts a marble Niobe, a fountain statue which depicts the greek mythological figure as a crying mother covering her face with her arms, a metaphor for the grief of the University for its fallen sons, whose names are engraved in the marble slabs behind her.
