In this talk I will present the activity carried out during the first year of the AI4EU project. Specifically, I will describe the AI4EU Observatory on Society and AI, its overall goal and main functions. Also, I will outline the key takeaways from the piloting of the European Trustworthy AI guidelines, and the recent policy proposals launched by the European Commission (e.g. White paper). Finally I will give an overview of the next steps including the upcoming launch of the working group on the ethical and legal issues of AI.
