Centuriated fields and archaeological visibility: ground truthing VEiL

VEiL feldwork in Aquileia (Italy) starting soon

VEiL fieldwork activities in Aquileia (near Udine, Italy) and surroundings will officially start tomorrow. Imprinted with the Roman 'spatial signature', the Aquileian countryside provides an unparalleled opportunity to expand our current understanding and perception of the origins and advances of landscape engineering and its efforts to build sustainable responses to long-term environmental and socio-economic pressures.

While on the field, the VEiL team will collect metrological data of the potential centuriated elements detected in the past months via computer vision applications in order  to use them in GIS analysis and will perform ground-truthing activities to check the reliability of the detections.
