Patrizio Bianchi "4.0 the new industrial revolution"

A new public lecture of H for Human Foundation about the presentation of Patrizio Bianchi's book.

Yesterday, December 6th, BA students had the opportunity to meet Patrizio Bianchi, professor of Applied Economics at the University of Ferrara and Assessor of the Emilia Romagna Region for European policies, schools, vocational training, universities, research and work , which will present the book entitled "4.0 the new industrial revolution".

Internet of things, artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual reality: it is our increasingly digital and interconnected world. Reflecting on the industrial revolutions of the past, starting from the English one of the eighteenth century, Professor Bianchi demonstrates that at stake there are profound social and territorial upheavals, not just technological ones. All industrial revolutions have brought changes at the political and territorial level but above all have impacted on the social level: today the fourth revolution forces us to radically rethink lifestyles, educational models, ways of consuming, producing, working, interacting. The role of information and politics is crucial.

“The greatest improvement in the productive powers of labour, and the greater part of the skill, dextery, and judgement, …seem to have been the effects of the division of labour”

A.Smith, The Wealth of Nations

«As it is the power of exchanging that gives occasion to the division of labour, so the extent of this division must always be limited by the extent of the power, or, in other words, by the extent of the market»

A.Smith, The Wealth of Nations

Patrizio Bianchi talked about a part of his job as Assessor for the Emilia Romagna Region and why this region is so important:

The Emilia Romagna Region (ERR) is the National and European hub for big data: about the 70% of the Italian research data  is stored/ processed in its research centre.

Four top universities, the national university supercomputing consortium(CINECA) , the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN)  and other National research institutes have  their tier one computing services and data centres in ERR.

ERR is the headquarters of world-leading companies in  the sector: automotive, mechatronics, digital production, bio-medical, e-commerce, agrifood

Emilia-Romagna is the  1° Italian region in terms of economic growth  rate and one of the most dynamic regions in Europe

Big data have been used for:

  • climate change

  • health and aging

  • production and innovation

  • humanities and society

  • education

  • sustainable cities

  • security and cybersecurities
