Melania G. Mazzucco was born in Rome in 1966. She made her debut in fiction with Medusa’s Kiss (1996), followed by Baltus’ s Room (1998). Her novel Vita (2003) won the Premio Strega, Italy’s most important literary award. In Spain, it won the International Prize Arcebispo Juan de San Clemente for best foreign novel of the year 2004-2005. In 2005, it also became the Globe & Mail Book of the Year, a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice, and one of the Publishers Weekly Top Ten Books of the Year, the only foreign work in the list. The subsequent novel A Perfect Day (2005) was turned into the film of the same name by Ferzan Özpetek. Mazzucco dedicated her novel The Long Wait for the Angel (2008) to the Italian Renaissance painter Tintoretto, followed up by a monumental biography and study Jacomo Tintoretto e i suoi figli. Storia di una famiglia veneziana (2009). Her books have been translated in 27 countries and she has written award-winning works for cinema, theater, and radio. She has contributed with articles, reportages, and short stories to many major newspapers and magazines. She created and wrote the documentary Tintoretto. Un ribelle a Venezia, a Sky original production that has been distributed in Italian theatres and in 60 other countries worldwide to great success. 

Melania G. Mazzucco will participate in the event  IAS – Interrogatorio Alla Scrittura, to be held at the Carcere femminile della Giudecca on Saturday 6 April at 11.00 am.

The event is fully booked. If you come to the venue 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the event, it is likely that there will be some seats available.
