Booking will be available until two days before the selected event, or until the event is fully booked.
will be interrogated by the detainees of the women's prison
Interrogatorio Alla Scrittura (IAS) is a project created and implemented by Closer – Cultural Association. IAS is a literary event hosted by the Giudecca women’s prison in Venice: the event is run by people in detention and is open to local citizens. For once, on this occasion, it will be the detainees’ turn to carry out an “interrogation”. All the inmates will be able to attend the event, as well as a group of 50 citizens who have signed up for it and obtained an authorization from the prison administration. In this eighth edition of IAS, the person to be interrogated will be Melania G. Mazzucco: the author, born and raised in Rome, won the Strega prize in 2003 for her novel Vita. She writes for cinema, theatre, and radio, and her books are translated in 27 countries. The main aim of the IAS project is to enhance the exchange between the prison and the city — or rather, to turn the prison into something that belongs to, rather than is separate from, the city and its inhabitants.
Bookings for this event are closed as the allotted quota of 50 available seats has been met.
For this event only, bookings were opened on Saturday 2 March upon request of the Carcere femminile, in order to abide by its security regulations.
The conversation will be in Italian; free admission, booking required.
