Carl-Christian Elze was born in 1974 in Berlin and currently lives in Leipzig. He writes poems, short stories and plays. His work has appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies including Akzente, BELLA triste, EDIT, Lyrik von Jetzt 2, and Jahrbuch der Lyrik. He took part in residency programs at the Deutsches Studienzentrum in Venice in 2016 and at the Künstlerhaus Edenkoben in 2017. He has won several awards such as the Joachim-Ringelnatz Prize and the Lyrikpreis München. His most recent books include langsames ermatten im labyrinth: poems (2019), diese kleinen, in der luft hängenden, bergpredigenden gebilde: poems (2016), and Oda und der ausgestopfte Vater (2018), a book of short stories about growing up with the animals at the Leipzig Zoo where his father was chief vet. Translations of his work into English can be found at Exchanges, The Los Angeles Review, Lunch Ticket, Tupelo Quarterly, and others. Elze is a member of the PEN Centre Germany.
Carl-Christian Elze is a writer in residence thanks to the Centro Tedesco di Studi Veneziani.
