Eugenijus Ališanka was born in Barnaul, Russia, in 1960, and has lived in Vilnius since 1962. He worked at the Institute of Art and Culture, at the Lithuanian Writers' Union and as editor-in-chief of the magazine The Vilnius Review, published in English and Russian. He has published seven collections of poems, four books of essays, and several translations. His poems have been translated into more than twenty languages. He has been awarded numerous prizes, including Poetry Spring and Jotvingiai Prizes for best poetry books of the year in 2012 and 2017. He is a member of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and a member of the Lithuanian PEN Club.
