International conference dedicated to the translation of Asian languages

A conference organized by the Department of Asian and North African Studies (DSAAM) involving more
than 80 international specialists in the translation of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and southeast-Asian
languages took place on campus from June 26 to June 28. The event was dedicated to the discussion of a
range of themes – and tensions – in the field of translation, such as the connection between translation and
gender studies.

Translation studies is a discipline of increasing importance in our ever more globalized world, and studying
translation facilitates the intercultural understanding. China, for example, has invested a a great deal of
time and effort in the translation of their documents into European languages, and many Ca’ Foscari faculty
members have translated important and influential works from both modern and ancient Asia and North
Africa.
