Discover Ca' Foscari Week
22-26 June 2020

Kickstart your future!

Given how many universities and programmes are available, deciding where to carry out your master’s degree can be overwhelming. There is almost too much choice!
In order to help undergraduate students from Italy and around the world determine if one of Ca’ Foscari’s English-taught master’s degrees could be the right choice for them, the International Office organizes summer orientation programme in English called Discover Ca’ Foscari Week. The programme is held in English and is designed for students in the third-last or second-last year of their undergraduate degree, and Ca’ Foscari covers the cost of accommodation, group activities and most meals for the duration of the programme.

How does it work?

Discover Ca’ Foscari Week is a four-day on-campus programme offers introductory lectures and interactive workshops with professors who teach courses for English-taught master’s degrees in six different study areas:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Economics and Management
  • International Studies and Globalization
  • Languages and Cultures
  • Preservation and Management of Cultural Heritage
  • Science and Technology

Many of the English-taught master’s programmes offered are also interdisciplinary in nature, bridging these areas. For a full list of the programmes explored during Discover Ca’ Foscari Week, see the list provided below.
Since your life as a graduate student is strongly influenced by the university’s urban context, Discover Ca’ Foscari Week supplements academic activities with cultural workshops and visits in the historic centre of Venice to help you get to know student life from all angles.
Given that the programme is not an exclusively academic experience, there is no evaluation during or after your participation and you do not receive academic credit.

Why take part?

Discover Ca’ Foscari Week offers a precious opportunity to test out one of your options by visiting it in person and getting a feeling for its intellectual context and its student culture. Because the program gives you four stimulating days to explore both Ca’ Foscari University and Venice! By participating in Discover Ca’ Foscari Week you will get the chance to:

  • attend introductory lectures and interactive workshops offered by professors who teach courses for English-taught master’s degrees in four different study areas
  • meet some of our current graduate students and get a sense of campus life
  • get to know the other undergraduate students from Italy and around the world who attend the event, helping you create an international network of peers
  • get to know the city of Venice itself by learning about its history and cultural traditions

Selection process

Participants in Discover Ca’ Foscari Week will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. The programme is designed for a maximum of 50 students – 10 should be currently carrying out an undergraduate degree in Italy and 40 should be studying abroad. The International Office will assess the first 15 students studying in Italy and the first 50 international students, creating two waiting lists.

If your application is one of these, the International Office will check your application form and its attachments. If you have satisfied the participation requirements outlined above, you will be offered a spot as a participant or be placed on a waiting list on the basis of the order of the applications’ arrival.

If you were unable to upload your English language certification, before being offered a place as a participant you will be required to carry out a Skype interview with International Office staff in order to determine that your knowledge of English is sufficient. If you do not demonstrate an ability to listen to and speak English at at least a B1 level, you will not be offered a place and the selection process will move on to the next person on the list.

If you are selected, you will be required to secure your place by paying a nominal, non-refundable 50 euro administrative fee online using a credit card. When you receive the email offering you your place, it will include a link to the payment web page. If you fail to pay the participation fee by 12:00PM on March 11, you will lose your place and it will be assigned to someone on the waiting list.

**Please note that the participation fee can ONLY be paid online via credit card. Also note that if you confirm your place by paying the 50 euro administrative fee, this cannot be refunded in the event that you need to withdraw from Discover Ca’ Foscari Week later on.
