Objectives and contents

Public writing and communication skills are understood in all professional fields to be skills of fundamental importance for disseminating the results of one's own work. We need to know how to display our efforts to be effective in any work environment. It is not only what we say, but also and above all how we say it. Capturing and keeping the attention of others, being convincing and credible, packaging a message in the best way possible: these are just some of the practical elements on which the course will focus.

This Minor therefore intends to provide these skills by teaching and putting into practice the different forms of written public communication (argumentative and narrative) including in relation to the forms of oral communication (in person and remotely) and performance. The modules are designed to develop progressively skills of communication: two of the modules take a mixed approach (theory/practice) and one is lab-based and focuses on the creation of content and its presentation in public (web, radio, public conferences).

The first module, Starting to Write, will provide the basic skills of writing, to be applied in any context. The second module, Creative Writing, will mainly provide general storytelling tools that in the current social context are used in every field, from business to journalism, politics and at school. The final module, Communication Laboratory, will put into practice the skills acquired in defined public contexts, enabling students to experiment what they have learned. The content of the laboratory will be decided together with the students and the entities involved for the dissemination of the results.
