Human Computer Interaction and Information Visualization

The laboratory carries out research activities in the areas of Human-Computer Interaction and Information Visualization.
The research mission is to design novel interaction modalities mediated by technology, create user experiences targeted to improve human life in different contexts and ease access and understanding of information through advanced systems of representation and interaction with data.

The main goal of the laboratory is to study and understand users' needs, and design effective, intelligent and engaging human-machine interactions and information representations.

The activity of the laboratory is focused on a variety of interaction paradigms, which include WIMP and touch-based interaction, mixed reality in its various forms (AR and VR), ubiquitous computing and tangible / physical computing.
The research activity crosses different application domains, such as environmental sustainability, smart environments, digital humanities, art and digital education, and is aimed at involving, with an approach based on co-design and targeted to social inclusion, multiple categories of users (from experts to common citizens) belonging to different age groups, from children to seniors.
