The Ca’ Foscari School for International Education promotes learning in a cross-cultural environment at a University whose long and distinguished history of international exchanges inspires our present commitment to create an international community of students and teachers in Venice.

The School provides University-level instruction within academic programmes that include courses in English for exchange students, graduate seminar programmes, as well as a Foundation Year for prospective students at Ca’ Foscari University or other Italian higher education institutions.

The School has a long-standing reputation for organising joint Summer Schools with prestigious international universities such as those with Harvard University, which has been in place for more than a decade. Also offered during the summer are numerous other summer schools open to everyone on a range of engaging and innovative topics, from translation to the environment, from global studies to contemporary art.

Italian language and culture plays an important role in all of the School's programmes, with students being encouraged to experience Venice and its lagoon, its art, architecture, history and culture through guided tours of the city and its museums, excursions, and boat trips, providing a true contact with the Venetian natural and cultural environment. The School also offers semester-long courses as well as a Summer School of intensive courses in Italian language, and combined with culture modules and a variety of activities around the city. The SIE is also an accredited centre for official certification of the Italian language (CILS), and not only can students take the exam at the SIE twice a year (in June and December) but they can also register for courses aimed at helping them prepare.

Students attending the School are also invited to participate in the various cultural activities offered by the city and by Ca’ Foscari, such as conversations with writers, a short film and a literature festival, theatre, music, films, and many more.

These are the reasons why we pride ourselves on making our international students feel truly welcome at Ca’ Foscari and in Venice.

Interested in organising a partnership programme with us?

We are constantly seeking to widen our network through the implementation of cooperative relationships which encourage scientific and cultural exchange and which have as their central aim the development of internationalisation opportunities for the entire University body of teachers, students and staff.

Following on from the former Ca' Foscari Summer School, the SIE organises programmes on a variety of themes throughout the year in collaboration with partner Universities. Within the programmes the School takes care of the overall organisation and arrival in Venice, the scheduling and teaching support, promotion and communication, as well as the organisation of cultural and social activities.
