Joint Summer School organised by Ca' Foscari and ADA University

In the third week of June 2022, a Summer School jointly organized by Ca' Foscari and the ADA Institute for Development and Diplomacy took place on the ADA University campus in Baku.
Entitled "Redefining the EU’s role in EaP [Eastern Partnership] in the New Decade", the Summer School is the first of a series of short, intensive courses that form part of the Jean Monnet Module "Enhancing capacity for EU-EaP resilient cooperation within new EaP beyond 2020 policy objectives: perspectives from Azerbaijan" that was jointly developed by Ca' Foscari and ADA.

In the light of the dynamic geopolitical processes unfolding in the EaP region – including the 2020 Karabakh war, Belarus’ suspension of its participation in the EaP, and the war in Ukraine – the Summer School aimed to shed light on the current challenges and development trends that are shaping the EU’s foreign policy today as well as on how current social, economic, and political processes in the EU influence the Union’s ENP and EaP strategy, on the internal perspectives of EaP countries on collaboration and on the EU’s role in the regional security and conflict management.

The programme lasted for two weeks, allowing its participants to acquire an in-depth knowledge through a dynamic range of activities including lectures, talks by guest speakers, workshops and field visits. The teaching was carried out by international and local professors and researchers in their respective domains of expertise. Among them, Carlo Frappi and Antonio Zotti, respectively a researcher and a lecturer at Ca' Foscari, offered lectures on EU Energy Politics, EU-EaP countries’ energy cooperation, EU Foreign and Security Policy, and the Challenges to Europe in the context of twenty-first-century geopolitics.

The programme was conceived for students, graduates, young researchers and young professionals studying or working in related fields. Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the current challenges and development trends that are shaping the future of the EU as well as of how those processes influence the EU’s ENP and EaP strategy, the internal perspectives of EaP countries on collaboration with each other and the EU in the context of regional security.
