“Discovering Azerbaijan”: a conference held in Ca’ Foscari on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918–1920), on May 15 Ca’ Foscari dedicated a conference to the complex and multi-faceted reality of the South Caucasian country.

The conference aimed at exploring the key drivers of Azerbaijan’s contemporary foreign and economic policy, with a particular emphasis on the nation’s bilateral relations with Italy. After a welcoming speech from Ca’ Foscari Vice-Rector, prof. Tiziana Lippiello, the current state and perspectives of the bilateral relations were introduced by H.E. Augusto Massari, Ambassador of Italy in Azerbaijan, and by H.E. Mammad Ahmadzada, Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Italy. The conference then focused upon the main features which shape Azerbaijan’s position in the contemporary Eurasian system with the participation of two representatives of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAM, Baku).
