"Brussels Looks East" – an international workshop at Ca’ Foscari

Academics and representatives from EU External Action Service and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs united to compare different perspectives on the EU's recently published Central Asia strategy and its potential future impact on the greater Caspian region.

Ca' Foscari hosted an international workshop entitled "Brussels Looks East: The Caspian Region and the New EU Strategy towards Central Asia" on November 29, 2019. Organized by the Marco Polo Centre for Global Europe-Asia Connections (MAP) and The Observatory on Central Asia and the Caspian (OACC), it involved the participation of both academics and representatives from EU External Action Service and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The workshop brought together experts and practitioners with the aim of comparing different national perspectives on the recently published EU central Asia strategy and of discussing its potential impact on the greater Caspian region in the future. Within this framework, special attention was given to Azerbaijan, not only as a natural bridge between the EU and Central Asia, but also as an important partner of Italy in the region.
