OFA B1 prospective students

No language requirement is required upon admission for students enrolling in the first year of a degree program taught in Italian in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Only for students enrolling in a year beyond the second or third year of a bachelor's degree programme taught in Italian, certified knowledge of English at B1 level is required, in accordance with the regulations in effect up to the 2024/2025 academic year. If no certification is provided, or if the student does not pass the language assessment at the CLA, an English language OFA (Additional Learning Requirement) will be assigned.

For students enrolling in the bachelor's degree programme in Language, Civilisation and the Science of Language, in order to include English or Anglo-American languages in their study plan, knowledge of English at at least B2 level is required.

How to register for the test

Users who do not yet have their student number and password must register on the University website (www.unive.it/registrazione) by entering their personal data. With the university student number and password, or SPID credentials (https://www.spid.gov.it/), from within the Reserved area, follow Assessment Test > Registration Assessment Test > B1 English language test Prospective students - NON-registered users.

Registration for the test requires payment of a €30.00 fee. In the event of withdrawal from the test or inability to take it, this fee will not be refunded.

Where to take the test

The test will take place in Aula Multimediale - Palazzina Briati.

On the day of the test, you will need to present a valid identity document and the username and password assigned during registration. Students are also requested to bring their own headphones/earphones to take the computer test. Any further instructions on how to access the venue will be sent to candidates, after registration has closed, at unive.it e-mail address.

Failure to attend will result in exclusion from the test.

Once you have registered, it is not possible to change the time of the test.

It will be possible to register from 10 a.m. on the first day in which the lists are open, until 12 a.m. on the last day indicated, as long as places are still available. It will not be possible in anyway to accept registrations for the OFA B1 test after the closing of the lists, nor will it be possible to request a change of time.

Structure of OFA B1 English language test

The B1 English computer test is 1 hour 30 minutes and is divided into four parts. Each part has a countdown timer.

• Listening Test: 30 minutes - one monologue and two dialogues, with multiple choice and true/false questions. Each passage can be listened to twice.
• Grammar Test: 25 minutes - three sections with:
  • 40 individual sentences to complete
  • 5 sentences in a short text to complete
  • 1 text made up of 5 sentences to complete.

  For each question the correct answer must be chosen from three alternatives in a dropdown menu.

• Vocabulary Test: 15 minutes - 20 sentences on specific themes to complete by choosing the correct answer from three alternatives. 
• Reading Test: 20 minutes - two tasks based on two different texts:
  
  • a newspaper article with 5 multiple choice questions, choosing the correct answer from three alternatives  (a, b, c)
  • a cultural based text with 10 sentences, deciding whether these are true or false

The final score is attained through a weighting of the four results so that each part of the test is evaluated out of 25, total 100 points.

The passmark of the exam is 60/100.
