NoSQL data models: contributions to structure representation and performance evaluation

Sala Riunioni B, edificio ZETA - Campus Scientifico via Torino

Speaker: dr. Camelia-Florina Andor, Babes-Bolyai University

Abstract:
Nowadays it is hard to choose the best fit for a given application’s workload (there are many NoSQL DBMSs available). A very popular performance evaluation application (benchmarking framework/tool) is YCSB (Yahoo! Cloud Serving Benchmark) and it can be used in NoSQL database performance evaluation experiments. However, YCSB lacks a graphical user interface and for highly customized experiments that involve custom data sets and custom workload types it requires modifications and extensions of the source code (YCSB was written in Java). A conceptual representation of database structure and queries that can be used for different NoSQL DBMSs and transformed into the equivalent DBMS specific commands would be useful. Together with some of my colleagues, we worked on developing similar modeling methods for MongoDB and Apache Cassandra. These methods can be implemented in Visual Query System and database performance evaluation applications (benchmarking frameworks).
