The course aims at applying the knowledge of current grammatical theories to the study of the English language (also in a comparative fashion). The students are brought to know and understand the theoretical tools of syntactic analysis, and to apply them to the English language. They should also master the technical jargon and should be able to communicate the acquired knowledge in a clear and non ambiguous way.
The expected results consist in a better understanding of the syntactic mechanisms active in English, compared with those of Italian.
The requirement is to have passed Linguistica Generale I e II.
The course(which will be given in English) deals with the formal syntax of English in a comparative perspective and will focus in particular on the following topic: the structure of nominal expressions.
