The course is part of the disciplines of Ancient and Medieval History, curriculum of Archaeology, Master's Degree Programme in Ancient Civilization. Literature, History and Archaeology.
The course belongs to the sector of the historical disciplines of the archaeological learning, focusing on the adeguate skills in the approach to the documentation of the pharanico Egypt; this appraoch also comprises a careful analysis of archaeological materials and epigraphic documentation. By means of thei work, students will verify some main subjects on pharaonic Egypt, with a specific focus on the concept of state in New Kingdom. Achieving of these goals will contribute to the maturity of those scienfic skills in the frame of the historical-archaeological context.
At the end of the course, thanks to the individual commitment in the topics of the lessons, the student of Egittologia Sp. will acquire a range of skills on specific subjects of the pharaonic culture, those will be investigated even thanks to the reading of Egyptian sources. These skills are part of a wider education in the archaeological activity, as stated in the description of the Master's Degree.
More in detail, the course will contribute to the edication of the student with the improvement of organizational skills in the work, in a wider frame of didactic activity and, more generally, in the oral and written communication (partecipation during the lessons with talks on the signalized topics, short dissertation). The knowledge in the discipline will be integrated with the course of Egitto Ellenistico-Romano.

Royal ideology and concept of state in the New Kingdom Egypt. Case-studies of an ideological model in its mature period.
Aims
- Ability of critical analysis on general subjects concerning pharaonic Egypt (general).
-Critical approach to the subjects of the course.
- Adeguate skills in the appraoch to the archaeological materials.
- Ability in the analysis of the written sources, with the development of adeguate philological skills.
- Ability in team work on Egyptian sources.

During the course, the student will take part in the discussions on the subjects of the lessons, and in the reading, translation and analysis of the texts in Egyptian language.
The exam comprises: presentation of the short dissertation, discussion of the subjects and the texts exposed during the lessons.
Reading of Egyptian texts can be repalced by a second, specific dissertation.
Five full lessons on specific case-studies, relating to the subjects of the course.
Five lessons with reading of Egyptian texts, relating to the subjects of the course.

The reading of Egyptian documents may be replaced with indivudual program (see “Assessment Methods”).
Graduation thesis: attendance and exams of Egitto Ellenistico Romano” and “Egittologia Sp.” with an average grade not lesser than 27/30.
