ITALIAN LITERATURE

Courses of Italian Literature provide at knowledge and understanding of the masterpices of italian literature from the XIII to the XXI centuries,focusing on historical, cultural, philological, and linguistic features.
Evry year a masterpiece will be chouse to make the student able to applying free judgements and communication skills. The student will able whit cultural and rhetorical instruments to analyse a literary text.
The general perspective will be open to making comparisons with European literature.
During the course the Romeo and Juliet tale, from Da Porto to Shakespeare will be examinated.

Advanced knowledge to study and knowledge Italian language and literature, mother tongue or choice, to lead a critical understanding of the basic principles of literary criticism. The aim will be to achieve advanced skills that demonstrate the mastery of methods and necessary innovation for the student to be able to address and solve the problems posed by criticism in the medium advanced field of study or literary work. Students will be able to manage complex professional activities and projects and will be able to assume responsibility for creating modules or contexts of study or work not initially planned, but achieved through the methods achieved. Students will be able to collect and interpret elements useful for determining autonomous judgements in the field of literary criticism and will thus be able to communicate information, ideas, problems and literary solutions. Finally, they are expected to have developed the learning skills necessary to undertake a higher level course of study.

An excellent knowledge of Italian written and oral language. This knowledge is assumed to exist in students enrolled at the university after having taken the matriculation exam that, in Italy, provides in every type of school, a written exam of Italian. The foreign student must know, to take the exam, the Italian language not on a superficial level. Grammar errors and elementary syntax will not be allowed.

Romeo and Juliet or Jiuliet and Romeo? Juliet and Romeo before Shakespeare.
Juliet and Romeo: Who wrote the most famous love story? and how did it get to Shakespeare? The course will examine the short stories by Luigi Da Porto and Matteo Maria Bandello, the French and English translations to arrive at the Shakespearean masterpiece.

Students have to demonstrate to understand and knowledge the text learned and they have made self-critical judgments beyond, of course, the exact verification of the text itself with open-ended questions.
Students will be asked to answer a few questions on the course contents and show they have learnt the main topics of literary analysis dealt with during the classes; to read and transfer a small piece of text into contemporary Italian.
It is important to note that the questions will be open-ended, so that each student can dedicate as much space as they wish (within the total time limit) to each individual answer.
No paper or electronic media shall be used during the examination. On the bench you will be allowed to have only the pen and the sheets that will be delivered during the exam.

Given the high number of students attending and who intend to take the exam even by non frequent students, it will not be possible to organize seminar groups.
