The course is part of the political ethical area and focuses mainly on the critical analysis of some texts of contemporary moral philosophical literature, aiming to reconstruct the genesis of some of the main debates on which practical philosophy is today challenged by the world of professions, of culture and politics.
Upon completion of this course the students will be able to:

1)Identify, compare and critically analyze different ethical approaches;

2)Identify and describe moral conflicts;

3)Justify, by means of critical reason, possible solutions to moral conflicts.
There are no formal prerequisites.However, who had not previously attended any Bioethics course, colud prepare to attend reading F. Turoldo, Breve storia della bioetica, Lindau, Torino 2014.
The course will address some moral dilemmas, highlighting how the different solutions to such dilemmas often depend on the different implicit theoretical assumptions. In particular two perspectives will be compared: that of the ethics of duty and respect for the rule and that of the ethics of responsibility and of the moral consideration of the consequences of action. The texts of the debate between Immanuel Kant and Benjamin Constant on the subject of the duty to always tell the truth and those of Max Weber on the ethics of belief and responsibility will be examined, among others. Finally, the role of the unconscious and emotions in determining moral action will be analized.
