This Minor program intends to provide a comprehensive view of gender issues, starting from theory and culture to move to the concrete aspects such as legal aspects, education policies, family and work, politics and society.
The program will look at the legal aspects and rules, equality and the stereotypes in society, in Italy and in the world, policies which improve the gender imbalance in the various areas such as work, welfare etc...We will look at the existing legal framework regarding family policies and inequaliities.

This course will analyze the causes of differences in the labour market, but also in levels of education and in the profile of acquired skills. The course will offer theoretical and methodological approaches and tools for emprical research and for the institutional analysis which are useful in identifying gender differences in the work place and in educational choices.

Intended learning outcomes in terms of:
1. Acquiring Knowledge and analytical skills
The course will provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the issues of gender economics.
To gain insight of the role of policies and institutions.
To learn about the mechanisms.
To learn the main concepts behind policies
2. Acquiring competence and applied Skills
Students will become familiar with the concepts of gender inequalities
Students will know how to read the appropriate related data in international publications
Students will know how markets operate and how policies have effects
3. Developing Critical thinking - problem solving
Students will be required to discuss the pros and cons of the different models
Students will discuss the data
Students will know how to compare the different policies and the effects .

This course will analyze the causes of differences in the labour market, but also in levels of education and in the profile of acquired skills. It will look at well-known and established theories of "gender discrimination" in the labour market with a focus on the gender-gap in wages. The course will offer examples where differences in wages can be explained by the organization within the firm but also to the different levels of education and training. There will be a focus on "family and work", looking at policies which allow managing the different activities of women, particularly legislation and institutional features. There will be open discussion on economics and family, such as taxation and incentives to encourage parenthood, child care and care for family members.
