The Patristics course is a teaching of the bachelor's degree "History from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Age" and of the master's degree in "Sciences of Antiquity: literature, history and archaeology."
Students will have acquired:
- knowledge regarding content and method in the area of Christian literature of the 2nd-7th centuries;
- a knowledge of the literary and cultural world in the different periods and linguistic spheres;
- skills in the critical study of texts of Christian literature of the early centuries.
A knowledge of Greek and Latin is recommanded for a fruitful course attendance.
The course is divided into two parts:
1. General introduction and presentation of the different periods and authors.
2. Reading and commentary on Eustratius of Constantinople (6th century), De statu animarum post mortem.

Oral exam on topics discussed in class. Possible preparation of a paper on a specific author (agreed with the professor).
Lectures. The presence (constant) for the work on the texts is strongly recommended.
