Francesca Tomasi (University of Bologna), What do we mean with scholarly digital culture?
Opening Keynote of Venice Summer School of Digital and Public Humanities within the framework of the DIGITALIA Erasmus+ Project, introduced by Lorenzo Calvelli (Ca’ Foscari)
Abstract:
Digital research products are becoming a central component of contemporary scholarship in the humanities. Yet, beyond being research outputs, they should also be recognized as part of our cultural heritage: digital cultural objects that embody knowledge, methods, interpretations, and scholarly practices, and therefore deserve preservation, curation, and long-term stewardship.
Drawing on experiences from the ATLAS and KNOT projects, particular attention will be devoted to the challenges of sustainability, preservation, and reuse. If digital research products are to become durable components of cultural heritage, the humanities community must adopt shared standards and good practices to ensure their FAIRability.
The lecture will also introduce Prodigi, a new journal dedicated to scholarly digital production, as a forum for promoting quality criteria, evaluation frameworks, and best practices for the future of digital scholarship.
