Museums and Datafication: Renegotiating museums and their digital interfaces

Abstract:

One of the many challenges that museums face today is to develop infrastructures for a post-digital condition that assumes data will be remixed, in motion and capable of flowing without friction across platforms and devices. This demands an agile, hybridised approach to cultural heritage content that by offering digital content ready for re-use across a network, enables the user to have increased agency and become active in the world. In this keynote presentation, Ross Parry and Vince Dziekan will discuss how museums might renegotiate their digital interfaces in order to facilitate an expanding range of user interactions that are diverse, open-ended and on-going; in other words, for content that can be experienced in hybrid ways by being multi-modal, multi-format and multi-purpose – all at once.
