Abstract
Dr Mena will discuss the role of safety and security in (fieldwork/in-situ) research, particularly as an ethical consideration. Also the importance of having a sound risk assessment and ethical and security plan prior to in situ and remote research. His intervention will unfold a discussion over decolonising research methodologies and perspectives.
Dr Schmeding will discuss mid-to-long-term research set ups that prioritize safety for researcher and interlocutors alike. She will also open up about the gendered dimension of access and ethical decision making in working with minorities and vulnerable groups in insecure settings.
