Luca Ronconi. I teatri dell’utopia

A decade after the passing of Luca Ronconi, a seminal figure in European theatre, a day of study and discussion is dedicated to revisiting his artistic legacy through testimonies, critical analyses, and research perspectives.

The initiative is organised by the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the PhD Program in History of the Arts, Centro Teatrale Santacristina-Archivio Ronconi, Associazione Culturale Ateatro, Engramma and ClassicA Centro Studi Architettura Civiltà Tradizione del Classico IUAV University of Venice.
The morning session is devoted to exploring Ronconi’s relationship with theatrical space and the city of Venice that played a pivotal role in his career during his tenure as Artistic Director of the Biennale Teatro e Musica from 1974 to 1976. The program features contributions from scholars, critics and close collaborators of the director, including Roberta Carlotto (Centro Teatrale Santacristina), Giacomo Bisordi (director and dramaturg), Oliviero Ponte di Pino (Associazione Culturale Ateatro), Margherita Palli (NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milan), Anna Bandettini (La Repubblica journalist), Debora Rossi (Head of Archivio Storico della Biennale– ASAC), Paola Bigatto (Accademia Teatrale Carlo Goldoni), Rosaria Ruffini (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice).
In the afternoon, a roundtable discussion will be dedicated to the presentation of the publication "Cantiere Ronconi: tracce, memorie, spettacoli", a monographic issue of the journal “Engramma”. Participants include scholars Piermario Vescovo and Maria Ida Biggi (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), Monica Centanni (IUAV University of Venice), Ilaria Lepore and Marta Marchetti (Sapienza University of Rome), Alberto Bentoglio and Giovanni Agosti (University of Milan).
The day will conclude with the screening of the documentary "75–Biennale Ronconi Venezia" (Palomar, 2022), with director Jacopo Quadri in attendance.
