University WiFi network

Who can access the Wi-Fi network on the University premises

Access to the Wi-Fi network on the University premises (network: Eduroam) is exclusively reserved for students, staff and accredited guests of Ca' Foscari, as well as users belonging to bodies of the Eduroam Federation.

Users with SPID or VeniceConnected credentials

The Wi-Fi network of the City of Venice (network: VeniceConnected) can be accessed in the main public areas in historic centre and on the city's mainland, using the credentials of the VeniceConnected service or your SPID.

Short-stay guests

Ca' Foscari users who wish to offer Wi-Fi access to a guest (e.g. lecturer, participant in work meeting. etc.), can request a temporary account or access to the classroom/venue’s computer by opening a ticket with the details of the guest that will be using the account, the reason for the request and the start and end date of the authorisation. The request must be sent at least 3 working days before the authorisation is needed. The duration of temporary accounts is limited and can be extended by opening a ticket.

Events with an external audience

To organise events where the public is offered access to the Wi-Fi network, the request must be sent to the Venue Management Unit ( logistica.spazi@unive.it), which will activate an account for the duration of the event. The request must be sent at least 3 working days before the authorisation is needed. The duration of temporary accounts is limited and can be extended by contacting the Venue Management Unit at  logistica.spazi@unive.it.

For information on how to reserve University venues and technical assistance, please visit the Meeting and event spaces page on our website.

Eduroam

Ca' Foscari University is part of the Eduroam federation, coordinated by the Consortium GARR: each federation body makes available its own internet access to users of other federated bodies.

  • Therefore Ca' Foscari users can access the networks of other universities and federated bodies, using the same credentials they use to access the University network.
  • In addition, users of other universities and federated bodies can access the Ca' Foscari WiFi network using the credentials they use to access the networks they belong to.

In Venice, the Eduroam network is found in all Ca' Foscari university sites and covers the majority of environments.
All users of the service, including those from other institutions, are required to comply with Ca’ Foscari regulations for personal data protection [ITA].

Please select "Università Ca' Foscari Venezia" among the available organisations and follow the instructions. For further information please read the guidelines about the software configuration on Windows or on Apple devices.

After the installation process, you will be able to connect to the WiFi network by using your personal unive username and password (the same ones used for the Personal Area of Ca’ Foscari website).

VeniceConnected

Ca' Foscari students, teachers and staff can access the internet with their own credentials even off the university campuses, using the Venice Municipality WiFi network (VeniceConnected) available in the main public areas of the old city centre and in mainland Venice. To check the coverage areas of the VeniceConnected network, see the access points map.

Access instructions

You can access the network when the VeniceConnected network is detected, which you must select on your device.

Once connected to the network, open a browser and go to any public web address (e.g. www.unive.it).
You will be automatically redirected to an authentication page (captive portal) of the Municipality of Venice.

Detailed access instructions are provided on the website of the City of Venice [ITA].

You will be asked for the following credentials:

  • username@unive.it (unive username with the permanent addition of the domain @unive.it, not @stud.unive.it)
  • password (usual password)

For example, if the user is a student with serial number 123456 and password abcdefgh, the credentials will be 12345657@unive.it (username) and abcdefghi (password).
Once authentication is successful, you can navigate freely.

The VeniceConnected network is also found within the Ca’ Foscari university sites, in addition to the Eduroam network, so you must take care to select the network you actually want to use.
If you use the automatic reconnection function on your mobile device, you may not always notice which network you are connected to.
