New perspectives on past celestial novelties

Sala Berengo, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice

4-5 June 2026
Interdisciplinary workshop - 2nd edition

In the second edition of the "New perspectives on past celestial novelties" workshop, a panel of experts will analyze, from an interdisciplinary perspective, a broad variety of meteorological and astronomical phenomena as they were observed and understood during the early modern period. For the sky has captivated the gaze of people throughout history, and what has been observed in the heavens has always sparked a wide range of theories and interpretations. Even when observations were carried out in a systematic and scientific manner, the intensity of the questions raised were never inferior to the sense of wonder that motivated them in the first place. Sharing different methodologies on common heavenly questions, the panel will draft a joint research proposal for the next round of the competitive funding scheme Marie Curie PhD network.

With the participation of:
Dario Tessicini, Craig Martin, Matjaž Vesel, David McOmish, Jonathan Regier, Matija Jan
