Multimodal Storytelling in Tourism Videos Promoting British Columbia

Aula 1 - Campus Treviso

The talk explores multimodal storytelling in promotional tourism videos, focusing on the YouTube campaign “Super, natural British Columbia”. Through the integration of multimodal and narrative analysis, the presentation illustrates how various audiovisual components and storytelling strategies work together in a dynamic format.

The analysis develops across three main levels:

  1. It analyzes the combination of audiovisual resources, such as images, spoken language, actions, and lighting changes;

  2. It delves into narrative strategies across key journey moments, including encountering the destination, immersing in the local culture, and experiencing the transformative power of the holiday;

  3. It examines the tourism values promoted by the narrative to understand how audience interpretation is shaped.

Together, these elements demonstrate how multimodal storytelling successfully engages viewers emotionally and guides their travel choices.
