VeDPH at the ANTIDOTE Training

The Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities (VeDPH) has just returned from Reykjavík, where the University of Iceland hosted the second stage of ANTIDOTE – Advanced Training in Digitization of Older Texts, a project funded by Erasmus+ (KA220-HED-D3AFF6E).

After its launch in the Klosterneuburg Abbey near Vienna (March 3-7, 2025), the project continued at trinity College Dublin (May 19-23, 2025) and finished its first cycle of intense training events in Reykjavik (June 23-27, 2025) bringing together scholars, librarians, students, and digital humanists from across Europe. Participants engaged in workshops and collaborative exercises focused on the digitization and analysis of ancient texts, gaining both technical skills and new perspectives on how Europe’s written heritage can be connected to the digital future.
Representing Ca’ Foscari, the VeDPH team — Franz Fischer, Federico Boschetti, Chiara Cauzzi, Elisa Corrò, together with a group of students — contributed actively to the training, sharing expertise and strengthening the Centre’s role in developing digital approaches to cultural heritage.

ANTIDOTE, curated by Franz Fischer, Federico Boschetti, Marina Buzzoni and Elisa Corrò, in collaboration with CLARIN-IT, is a three-year project (2024–2027) that aims to create a European framework for advanced training in the digitization of older texts.
The network includes the University of Iceland (coordinating institution, Reykjavík), Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), Klosterneuburg Abbey Library (Austria), Comenius University (Bratislava, Slovakia), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy), CNRS (Paris & Lyon, France), and Trinity College Dublin (Ireland).

With the striking Icelandic landscapes of fire and ice as a backdrop, the training reminded participants of the power of collaboration and transformation. Just as Iceland’s nature embodies resilience and change, ANTIDOTE seeks to reimagine the future of Europe’s textual heritage through innovation, international cooperation, and shared expertise.
Dublin marked the beginning, Reykjavík carried the project forward: ANTIDOTE is on its way, and VeDPH is at the heart of the journey.

Call for applications to participate in the 2nd cycle of the Erasmus+ Advanced Training in Digitization of Older Texts (ANTIDOTE): LINK - Open for doctoral and master students until Oct 7, 2025.
