Abstract
This paper will present the methodology and software developed for a palaeographic study of inscriptions from ancient Sicily. Systematising traditional approaches to palaeographic analysis to a series of recommendations for data structure and the use of an open digital framework gives us the ability to link and compare multiple resources. That, in turn, will enable the larger epigraphic community to explore this aspect of our research at a larger scale and in a more consistent manner than is currently possible. The palaeography module within the Crossreads ERC project focused on the development of a comprehensive annotation and exploration tool, structured descriptions of letter forms, manually curated dataset of annotations and a typology of allographs for both Ancient Greek and Latin. We will present use cases, resources, and discuss plans for further development.
