Neuroscapes and urban archeology: Intervisibility between necropolis, acropolis and urban settlement

Sala Milone, DSU; online

On October 26, 2022 Nevio Danelon will presents 'Neuroscapes and urban archeology: Intervisibility between necropolis, acropolis and urban settlement'. The seminar is part of the seminars series organized by the Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities (VeDPH), in collaboration with Centro Studi Archeologia Venezia (CeSAV), Department of Humanities, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. It will be held in person and online.

The project Neuroscapes and Urban Archaeology is focused on the study of the ancient urban space and cityscapes. Specifically, funerary monument visibility from the city will be investigated by virtual reality systems, procedural modeling and neurologic experiments (EEG, eye-tracking). The first phase of the project will entail the virtual reconstruction and simulation of the ancient city of Vulci (Etruria) and Memphis (Egypt) based on GIS and procedural modeling. The second one will assess the cognitive impact of the urban space by eye-tracking systems and EEGs data recording.

Nevio Danelon is currently visiting scholar at the Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities (VeDPH) where he is working on projects of neuroarchaeology. Previously, he was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Art, Art History & Visual Studies at Duke University where he conducted research in Archaeology, Virtual Museums and Cultural Heritage. Nevio began his scholarly inquiry in Ancient History at the University of Pisa and then he received his Ph.D. in Oriental Studies defending a doctoral dissertation in Egyptian archaeology.
