Nature Speaks | Barene e Palu’. Seminario itinerante tra inquieti corpi di terra e d'acqua
24 April 2026, 11.00 AM

Together with Nadia Breda, Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the University of Florence and one of Italy’s leading experts in anthropological studies of wetlands, and local expert Tito Pamio, we will explore the salt marshes and the Venice lagoon in a field seminar.

We will delve into the topic of wetland conservation in the Venetian and Veneto hinterlands.

The planet’s wetlands are rapidly disappearing due to erosion, pollution, and land reclamation aimed at making these areas more productive (from an anthropocentric perspective). The Veneto region is home to various examples of wetlands, such as salt marshes and palù.

The Campalto salt marsh system, the destination of this walking seminar, stretches between the Darsena and Marco Polo Airport. It is currently the only barene system accessible on foot in the Venetian inland area.

Information:

  • The event will take place along the “Passeggiata delle Barene” in Campalto. The meeting point is at 10:30am at the Campalto dock, in front of “Trattoria al Passo.”
  • The meeting point can be reached from Venice by taking bus number 5 at 10:10am toward the airport and getting off at the “Sabbadino Passo Campalto” stop.
  • The event will take place during low tide; however, we recommend wearing rubber boots to walk on the salt marshes or, alternatively, waterproof hiking shoes.
