Religion after Longevity: Between Religious Traditions and Post-Humanism

From 1 to 3 December 2026, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini will host the international conference Religion after Longevity: Between Religious Traditions and Post-Humanism, dedicated to the relationship between religion, longevity, immortality, and post-humanism.

The conference brings together scholars and researchers from international universities and research centres to explore conceptions of life, ageing, death, and transcendence through historical, philosophical, anthropological, and religious perspectives.

The programme spans medieval and Renaissance alchemical traditions, contemporary spiritual practices in the Americas, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and the questions raised by transhumanism and emerging technologies. Topics include practices aimed at extending life, spiritual transformation, death-related rituals, artificial intelligence and grief, digital well-being, and the prospects of overcoming the biological limits of human existence.

The conference is jointly organised by the Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations and Spiritualities at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the HHP – Centre for History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents at the University of Amsterdam, the CSWR – Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School, and the NICHE – Centre for Environmental Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
