Promoting water education, heritage, and sustainable development in the Mediterranean

Online video

An inspiring video dedicated to water heritage, education, and sustainable development in the Mediterranean was launched on December 16th at the MAB-IHP Symposium organized by the UNESCO Venice Office on Biosphere Reserves in South East Europe and the Mediterranean.

The video is aimed at promoting awareness about traditional practices of wise water management in the Mediterranean as a contribution to better understand our roots into the farsighted management of water. The video illustrates how specific techniques, handed down for generations, suggest wise, low-energy, and nature-based solutions, with tangible benefits also for biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Today these techniques and inherited insights provide a key inspiration for green, clean, and zero-waste technology and are central to the SDGs.

The video is produced by MIO-ECSDE (the Mediterranean Information Office for the Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development) and by UNESCO’s Global Network of Water Museums, which is active in Venice at the Center for Humanities and Social Change. The UNESCO Chair based at the Venice University Ca’ Foscari is active to provide fundamental training activities to water museums and information centres globally.
