Body Politic: Communitas, Adaptation, Adaptability

A symposium inquiring into the ways in which the discourse on the body and the notion of community have reciprocally shaped and transformed each other in recent decades. The symposium is articulated in two parts First part: second Venetian seminar of the European Modernist Union (a collaboration between Ca' Foscari and the University of Birmingham), featuring speakers Mae Losasso (University of Warwick), "Late Lyric, Long Breath," and Christos Hadjiyiannis (University of Regensburg), "Charismatic Bodies: Suffering in Sharon Olds and Louise Glück," followed by two respondents: Liz Barry (University of Warwick) and Max Saunders (University of Birmingham). Second part: international roundtable during which some members of Research Group No. 11 of Department of Linguistic and Comparative Cultural Studies' Excellence Project, together with international colleagues, will present their research related to Displacement/Adaptation/Transformation.e symposium a new research network will be inaugurated: the Corporeal Modernist Network (CMN) coordinated by Mae Losasso (University of Warwick) and Mena Mitrano (Ca' Foscari University Venice).
