Diatopic Variation of French and the Teaching of Italian in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa

Sala Conferenze - Palazzo Cosulich

As it spreads beyond Italian borders, the Italian language comes into contact with other linguistic systems, inevitably leading to various types of interference and transfer.
The aim of the seminar is to highlight the characteristics of Italian as it is learned in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa.
In particular, using a contrastive approach and starting from the specific features of the French spoken in Sub-Saharan Africa, the seminar will highlight some examples of negative transfers that can be observed only in this part of the Francophone world.
The seminar will conclude with a reflection on the attitude of Italian language teachers toward productions that, while adhering to Italian grammatical norms, carry a strong local cultural and pragmatic influence.
