Ibero-American cultural geographies: landscapes, contact, languages. Spain, Portugal and America

Sala B, Ca' Bernardo - Dorsoduro 3199 – Venezia

14-15-16 October 2025

The Third International Congress on ‘Ibero-American Cultural Geographies: Landscapes, Contact, Languages’ aims to strengthen ties of friendship, intellectual networks and social relations between Spain, Portugal and America.
By bringing together specialists in the field of languages and literature from Brazil, Portuguese-speaking countries and Spanish-speaking countries, the congress aims to initiate a debate on issues such as cultural transpositions. Critical topics such as migration, diaspora, exile, linguistic contact and literary and artistic exchanges will be explored. Particular attention will be paid to analysing how the historical ties of subordination between central and peripheral areas in the Ibero-American world are being reconfigured and adapted to post-colonial transfer processes. The event highlights the intrinsic synergies between languages, their systematic study and literary and cultural disciplines. The initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration between the international and inter-institutional project of the same name, funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture, the Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies at Ca' Foscari University of Venice and the Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies at the University of Padua.
