Interview

1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity.

 I am an associate professor and researcher in Spanish Literature in the area of Spanish Language and Spanish and Latin American Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters, and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo, Department of Modern Letters. In 2018, I conducted postdoctoral research at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro entitled Joan Ponç e o Brasil: arte e literatura em movimento. My academic research focuses on examining the relationships between literature, history, and art in the 20th century, both in Spain and in the Ibero-American context, in works related to the Spanish Civil War and the post-war period. I am the author of Desastres do Pós-guerra Civil Espanhola and editor of the dossier 80 anos da Guerra Civil Espanhola: leituras e releituras and Mapas da poesia hispânica dos últimos 30 anos (1990-2020), Revista Caracol. I am currently developing the inter-institutional (Brazil-Europe) project Mapas de la poesía hispánica, in which I discuss the relationship between art and poetry, and I am part of the research group Geografias Culturais Ibero-americanas: Paisagens, contato, linguagens (included in the CNPQ-2021 Universal Call for Proposals).

2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research and teaching stay.

I chose Ca'Foscari University because my research activities are connected to the objectives of this department's Excellence Project and, specifically, to the DISPLACEMENT/ADAPTATION/TRANSFORMATION Research Group, since, together with Prof. Alessandro Mistrorigo, we are part of the Ibero-American Cultural Geographies research group. In fact, during my stay, we will hold the international conference we have organized: “Cultural Geography, Convergences, and Adaptabilities: Spain, Portugal, and America,” co-financed and held at the DSLCC from October 14 to 16, 2025. In addition to this activity, I have been developing a series of collaborations with Prof. Mistrorigo on topics such as exile, migration, and adaptation in the sense of the circulation and regeneration of forms and ideas.

I am also very interested in accessing the materials belonging to the “Laboratorio per lo studio letterario del fumetto,” where I intend to conduct research in order to propose a project related to graphic novels at my university in the future.

Finally, I intend to consolidate an inter-university collaboration between Brazil and Italy, established since 2016, which has the future goal of stipulating a cooperation agreement between both institutions covering both faculty and student mobility initiatives.

3. Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?

Yes, since 2016 I have been developing a series of collaborations with Prof. Alessandro Mistrorigo, such as a postgraduate course, organizing dossiers in magazines in Brazil and Spain, and organizing conferences. In fact, Prof. Mistrorigo and I have been part of the research group Ibero-American Cultural Geographies: Landscape, Languages, and Contact since 2021.
