"Herbert. Barbarian in the Garden". Film Screening and Conversation with the Director Lewandowski

The event features a screening of the film HERBERT. UN BARBARO NEL GIARDINO followed by a conversation with the director, Rafael Lewandowski.
The event will be introduced by Francesca Fornari and Marco Fazzini, with translation by M. L. Wojciechowski.

Zbigniew Herbert is celebrated as one of the most important humanists of the 20th century. His work, which frequently draws on ancient civilizations to highlight a common European identity, played a colossal role in uniting the mentalities of Eastern and Western Europe, then separated by the Iron Curtain. A multiple Nobel Prize candidate, Herbert's poetry has been translated into over 40 languages and remains an anthem to freedom and human dignity. HERBERT. UN BARBARO NEL GIARDINO is a documentary composed of multiple voices, featuring intimate interviews with Herbert’s loved ones and specialists in literature and history, including Alfred Alvarez, Philippe Jaccottet, Edward Hirsch, and Adam Michnik. The film explores pivotal locations that shaped Herbert’s art, such as the Scottish island of Iona, the Israeli fortress of Masada, Athens, Spoleto, and Paris.
The Director: Rafael Lewandowski Rafael Lewandowski (b. 1969, Polish-French) is a graduate of the Sorbonne and the French film school “La Fémis.” His acclaimed feature film debut, KRET (The Mole, 2011), earned multiple awards, including prizes at the 36th Polish Film Festival and the 35th Montreal International Film Festival. Lewandowski is a recipient of the prestigious Polish "Polityka Passport" (2011) and was awarded the French Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2015.
