Forms of narration in the languages of the Graphic Novel Status Quaestionis

Università degli Studi di Firenze - Biblioteca Comparetti e online

The DSLLC and the Laboratory for the Literary Study of Comics, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, the University of Florence FORLILPSI, and the Italian Society of Comparative Literary Studies, have sought to promote a joint reflection on the phenomenology of the graphic novel, from the perspective of the reworking of narrative modules related to the intersection of text and image, on the one hand, and the design of new publishing and dissemination strategies for hybrid cultural subjects in which simple forms and complex structures of the literary tradition intertwine with heterogeneous aesthetic and rhetorical functions (illustration, rewriting, adaptation, parody, satire, etc.).
The pre-theoretical framework of reference suggests the following operational definition of the conference's subject:
The graphic novel is a new multimodal literary genre based on the visual language of comics, acknowledging the factual situation of the cooperation between image and text in the construction and transmission of complex, high-quality narrative structures, which have had the effect of removing comics from its original domain. of consumption and paraliterature, affirming their originality and autonomy.
