Glocal perspectives on EMI students: Italy and beyond

Sala B - Ca' Bernardo

The seminar aims to critically and comparatively explore the experience of students involved in university English-Medium Instruction (EMI) programmes, with a specific focus on the glocal dimension, that is, the interaction between local dynamics and global influences in the academic context. The event will bring together international experts in the field of EMI, who will present innovative perspectives and research on some central aspects of the student experience. Topics include:

-the intercultural dimension of learning in EMI contexts,

-the challenges related to assessment and evaluation,

-the potential of writing retreats as tools to support academic writing,

-the perceptions and needs of students seen through the eyes of various university stakeholders (faculty, students, technical-administrative staff).

The main objective of the seminar is to foster dialogue and collaboration among all members of the academic community, stimulating reflection on how to improve practices and policies related to EMI, with particular attention to the well-being and academic success of students. In this way, the event not only promotes a more inclusive and informed vision of English-language higher education but also offers direct and concrete benefits to students and the entire academic community.
