In Other Words, 35 years on. From literature to tourism communication in translation

Aula 2C - San Basilio

The conference celebrates the 35th anniversary of the first publication of In Other Words, coinciding with the release of its fourth edition. The volume remains the most prestigious and widely used translation manual in the world, serving as an essential reference for students, educators, and researchers alike. Mona Baker is Professor Emerita at the University of Manchester, Affiliate Professor at the University of Oslo (Norway), and Honorary Dean of the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at Beijing Foreign Studies University (China). Prof. Baker is one of the most authoritative voices in Translation Studies. Her research has successfully bridged corpus linguistics with the analysis of translation as a narrative practice, placing a fundamental emphasis on ethics and social responsibility. She seamlessly combines academic rigour with profound intellectual passion and a steadfast civic commitment.
