Commerce épistolaire de la première modernité en France et en Italie

Sala B - Ca' Bernardo

The conference aims to examine early modern epistolary writing within the French and Italian contexts, exploring the intersections of relational dynamics, literary and social practices, the codification of stylistic and rhetorical models, and the categorization of compositional genres.

The investigation will specifically focus on the adaptation of literary models in both real and fictional correspondence; the status and function of letter-writing manuals and collections; the construction of epistolary networks; and issues surrounding women's writing, identity formation, and authorship. Furthermore, the analysis will address the manipulative potential of the letter as well as the challenges related to the critical (including digital) editing of epistolary corpora.
