The Body, Outpost of the Mind: Corporeal Temporalities, Aging, Literature, and the Arts

This conference seeks to bridge the gap between body studies and age studies. Its primary aim is to reflect on how the body, as it adapts over time, shapes the mind, influences intergenerational relationships, and determines our perceptions of both the self and the collective. The conference adopts an interdisciplinary approach, inviting scholars to explore these themes through the lenses of literature (fiction, poetry, memoirs), performing and visual arts (cinema, dance, theater), and critical theory within the Anglophone context. Participants are encouraged to examine the body as a challenging boundary of thought and a dynamic force that shapes social, material, and historical contexts, including discussions on aging, illness, and the body’s connection to human and non-human others.
