Aleksandar Zograf - Gordana Basta. Pen and Needle - Exhibition of Embroidered Comics, 8-10 June 2026

Tesa 1, BALI CFZ Dorsoduro 1392, Venezia

This exhibition presents the collaborative works of Serbian alternative comics artist Aleksandar Zograf and visual artist Gordana Basta, bringing together comics, illustration, and
embroidery in a unique dialogue between contemporary visual storytelling and traditional handcraft.
Zograf’s drawings and comics – internationally known for their autobiographical approach and graphic reportage exploring everyday life, personal memory, and collective history – are reinterpreted through Basta’s embroidered works. In the fast-paced world we live in, handmade embroidery may appear “slow” and old-fashioned, requiring time, patience, and dedication, while Zograf’s comics belong to the language of contemporary illustration and circulate worldwide. The encounter between these two artistic practices creates vibrant works that invite careful viewing and reflection.

Aleksandar Zograf (Saša Rakezić) is a Serbian cartoonist and illustrator internationally recognized for his autobiographical comics and graphic reportage. Through his work, he explores everyday life as well as individual and collective memory.
Gordana Basta is a Serbian visual artist whose practice focuses on themes of memory, archives, and personal and collective history, often in dialogue with comics and visual narration.
