The Biennale of Cultural Dissent (Venice, 1977)

Sala B - Ca' Bernardo

This roundtable discussion is devoted to the Biennale of Cultural Dissent in Eastern European countries (Venice, 1977).
Participants — Matteo Bertelè (Ca' Foscari), Giulia De Florio (University of Parma), Stefano Pisu (University of Cagliari), and Ilaria Sicari (Ca' Foscari)— will discuss, respectively, the main events of the program from the various sections of the Venetian event — visual arts, music, cinema, and literature — focusing on the role of several actors (individuals and institutions) who collaborated in the realization of these events (exhibitions, concerts, film festival, etc.), as well as on their relational networks. The ultimate goal is to contextualize the Biennale of Dissent within the framework of the so-called "cultural Cold War."

The roundtable discussions will introduce the opening of the interactive and digital exhibition Tamizdat@Ca'Foscari, a project curated by Ilaria Sicari (Ca' Foscari University) in collaboration with Valeriia Korotkova (Stanford University), Georgii Korotkov (Stanford University), DSLCC, and the VeDPH.
